“There is some good news out of Baltimore, Maryland, as Lt. Brian Rice was acquitted on all charges,” Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told the crowd in Cleveland.
Rice was acquitted Monday of manslaughter and other charges for the 2015 death of Freddie Gray, a black man who was fatally injured inside a police transport van. Rice’s death in custody sparked protests and added fuel to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Clarke called Marilyn Mosby, who prosecuted the case, an “activist state’s attorney” and accused her of malicious prosecution.
